Breakfast at the hotel, packing up, and departure at 10:00 AM into the mountains. A scenic 3.5-hour mountain drive through authentic villages, with stops for breathtaking views and a traditional local lunch. The first major stop is the giant Tobot Waterfall—a perfect spot for walking and photography. Next, we visit the Matlas Natural Park and the Stone Bowl, a mystical rock formation known as “Dagestan’s Narnia.” On the way, we stop at some of the most famous mountain cafés, where you can try Dagestani coffee with urbech (a traditional nut butter).

After the tours, we arrive at our cozy mountain hotel with all the amenities for a comfortable stay. The evening includes an authentic mountain dinner, with an optional master class on making hinkal (a traditional Dagestani dish).

Then we head to the Karadakh Gorge, a natural wonder that looks like a scene from The Lord of the Rings. After lunch and some relaxation in the mountains, we visit a 1,000-year-old Georgian monastery, learning about its history and taking in the stunning scenery.

Next, our journey takes a mysterious turn as we explore Old Goor, an abandoned village once located on the Silk Road. A local guide will share stories about life in this unique place, set against the dramatic backdrop of Dagestan’s highest mountains.
After the tour, we return to our hotel, where a delicious dinner awaits.

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Saltinsky Waterfall, the most unusual underground waterfall in Dagestan. In warm weather, you can swim under the waterfall. After taking plenty of photos, we continue to Gunib, the most historically significant village in Dagestan. We explore the battle sites of the Caucasian War and admire the breathtaking views from this high-altitude settlement.

Then, we visit the ancient village of Chokh, a place with rich history and picturesque landscapes. Here, we learn about the Persian battles that took place in this region and see the unique preserved architecture of mountain houses.

Our next stop is Chokh Terraces, Dagestan’s version of Bali’s rice terraces. We enjoy a small mountain picnic with traditional herbal tea, watching the sunset over the mountains.
Finally, we return to our hotel for dinner and rest before an exciting final day in the mountains.

We wake up in the mountains, enjoy breakfast, and set off for Chirkey Reservoir, the largest in the North Caucasus. Here, we take an extreme boat ride, learning about the fascinating history of the area.

Next, we visit the most breathtaking viewpoints of Sulak Canyon, one of Dagestan’s most famous landmarks. Then, we enjoy lunch with fresh local trout, surrounded by stunning landscapes (alternative meal options are available for non-fish eaters).

Our next destination is Sarykum Sand Dune, a unique natural monument and filming location for the Soviet classic White Sun of the Desert. We explore the dune and learn about its mysterious origins.

After sunset, we drive back to Makhachkala and check into our hotel. Free time.
